Summary
On the day Theseus Hendrick Mycroft died, no one cried, not even him. He was a despised man, the crown prince only in title. Many would claim he was shunned even by the gods but they would be wrong. See, there is an ancient law that even the gods must listen to, the law of free will. If the mortals walking the earth decided Theseus was unworthy of love then there was little the gods could do to change their minds.
At least, not while he was alive. A fancy little loophole, a favor from Time who adored Theseus just as much as the rest of the gods, and Theseus would live once more, now with divine favor bleeding from his skin. The Kingmaker System would ensure he will live to see the end of his fate, to be the greatest king the world has ever known.
But... a small issue. The morality of the gods is much different than the morality of man and the system was designed with their view of morals and what makes a good king in mind.
The descent into depravity is slow but inevitable.

Summary
Many years in the future, Theseus Hendrick Mycroft is named crown prince. This is not important.
Many years in the future, Theseus still reaches out for General Samuel Edward Armati, his dad in all but blood. When his blood father failed him, Sam was there for him, reaching back despite everything that tried to stop him. Perhaps that makes it cruel, the way they wound together until every piece fit. Perhaps that makes it kind, for Sam understand Theseus well enough to know when Theseus needs him, when Theseus wants him.
Many years in the future, Theseus reaches out to his dad for assistance grooming his wings. He has others to help but he wants his dad. Sam reaches back, like he always does. Their relationship shifts, something new blooms.
But this is still many years beyond our time.

Set in the same world as my fic 'All In His Name' but, as you could guess, about a decade into the future when Tommy is an adult. Reading that fic is not necessary to enjoy this oneshot but it does add context to various references that I feel changes the experience. It's up to you though.Series
