Summary
Michael Rabinavitch was full of a deep and disturbing desire. The undoing of himself in the pedes room was the begrudged awakening of this revelation. Loneliness riddled his insides like a parasitic virus. He could name a few more deadly than his own desire, but he knew it would just be a distraction.
He didn't know it was a desire, a longing, until he was promising himself a sabbatical. He could promise himself to find God on the road, God or something like it. He promised himself to untangle the web of desire that sat so heavy in his gut that he often looked up gastrointestinal disorders that explained his pains (“Hey Siri, what're the symptoms of Hirschsprung's disease?”)
Except instead of a medical translation for his suffering, he only had a name: Dennis Whittaker.
