FINAL CHAPTER (37): It Ends in Death Pt 2Mephistopheles lifts his sword again, determined to end the intruders' lives in a splatter along the marble. Finally reaching his goal, Enver slides into the shield just as the sword comes heavily down, cracking the spell around him and Sceleritas. He pushes to his feet and thrusts the crown into the fiend’s chest.
“GO.” Enver commands.
The Bhaalist butler hesitates, his eyes darting uneasily from the man, to his master at the end of the hall, back to the man.
“GO!” Enver barks again, “I’VE GOT HER.” The sword lifts above them again.

He holds a large bundle of flowers in one hand, and the fanciest pie he could find at Harbreeze Bakery in the other. The waistband of his trousers struggles to stay in place, the heft of his remaining gold weighing him down physically, though nothing could weigh his spirit down. He walks down the hill towards home, taking in the glittering lights and the smell of smokepowder off the water. His cheeks ache from smiling all day. He thinks this must be the best day of his life. And tomorrow he’ll get to do it again.
