Now that subtitles are available and I better understand what the Ocean was saying to Simon at the end, it became pretty clear to me that the Light is something the Ocean wants. A separate entity of light that holds something almost like creation, pursued by a hive mind being that knows nothing but Hunger. Now why did that sound familiar?

In this series, Simon and Ava’s actions allowed the retrieval of the Black Box. As a result, the Ocean tried to consume the Light and it escaped. The ocean pursued, consuming all in its wake. One Plane of existence it consumed used the Light and Seven Birds escaped. These birds gave the Ocean a new, far more fitting name.
