Summary
Twenty-five years ago, the Shroud between worlds tore open—and most of the realm’s shamans died sealing it.
Now the dead are restless. Shrines rot from the inside out. Spirits burn with foxfire that should not exist in the living world.
Chan, the young shaman-general, bears a legacy stained by catastrophe. Around him gather protectors from the provinces—storm-callers, healers, illusionists, and spirit-speakers—each carrying their own secrets, fractures, and fears. As corruption creeps through shrines, rivers, and dreams, the line between the living world and the Shroud grows dangerously thin.
Bound by duty and divine law, they must navigate palace intrigue, forbidden bargains, and the terrible cost of power. Because some threats cannot be defeated by strength alone—and some truths, once uncovered, demand everything in return.

Summary
Chan leads a team of eight shamans in a realm under siege by an insidious spiritual force. Something dark, intelligent and patient has been working against the spiritual infrastructure for months—destabilizing shrines, redirecting the flow of sacred energy, operating with the specific precision of something that understands the architecture it's dismantling. The shamanic order's political position is more precarious than it has been in a generation; the court watches for any indication that the shamans' autonomy is more trouble than it's worth.
He has also, somewhere in the accumulated weight of all of this, developed a problem he cannot address with any of his professional tools.
The problem has dark brown eyes, pale hair, a psychopomp's particular relationship with mortality, and a sunny warmth so genuine it had taken Chan embarrassingly long to understand why his nervous system had decided to treat it as a structural concern.
He had not addressed it. He had been addressing other things.
