It is a beautiful gold wedding band, adorned with two emeralds at each end. It is the same as Lestat's.

Lestat dies during Mardi Gras, his body burning before Louis has the sense to pull him from the flames.

He tells himself, as he tugs on the reins to keep from straying from the path climbing the hill, that no one should ever witness it. The pendant he wears around his neck is heavy with gold and bounces against his chest with every gallop. Louis traces the return of his breath upon it, and with it every beat that still soothes his heart. Lestat’s hair—a faint trace, honey-wheat under the summer sun, the scent of lavender lingering in every strand. But stiff, terribly stiff—just like a dead person’s hair. Cold in their coffin at the first snow of the wake—they lie locked away in that golden locket. Protected and eternal, against his heart.
