Summary
"Not only bite," Ilya tells him, pleased that Shane was able to pick up on what Ilya wasn't saying. "The omega would tear flesh away."
"What?" Shane asks, his voice incredulous.
"They bit deeply enough to remove a piece of their alpha and then they swallowed it."
"What?"
"It was symbolic," Ilya shrugs.
"What the fuck, Ilya?"

Summary
Ilya slings his damp towel over his shoulder and heads to Shane's side of the bed. He uses his foot to fish out a stool and bucket, picking the bucket up while sliding the stool along the floor with a few easy pushes. It comes to rest next to Shane, and Ilya gives him another little pat on the head, careful not to knock his headband aside, before he crouches down next to his pretty cow.
"How are your fat udders feeling this morning?" Ilya asks, patting Shane's sides gently. His cow moos again, deliberately moving his chest so his fat teats flopped around. Ilya chuckles at the sight, shaking his head. "Oh, I see, my poor cow needs milked, yes?"
Shane nods his head, multiple sweet moos sending warm affection through Ilya. He stands long enough to adjust the stool before taking a seat, reaching over to move the bucket to sit right below the udder in front of him.

Summary
A blur explodes from the undergrowth.
Shane barely has time to register movement before something slams into him hard, the impact driving all the air from his lungs. The world flips sideways, the ground rushing up to meet him, and he grunts when he lands, pain erupting from his shoulder. Dirt and debris fly, getting into his eyes, and Shane hisses at the pain, shaking his head violently.
Something massive lands on top of him. Shane's first thought is 'Holy shit, it's a bear.' The bear that killed the moose has followed him, has decided Shane is its next victim, and he opens his burning eyes to blurrily look at the animal on top of him.
It's not a bear.

Summary
Something cold settles low in Shane's stomach at her hesitation. His mom almost never hesitates, always confident and firm in what she is doing. Whatever she's about to say, it's probably no small thing.
"There's something I need to tell you," she says quietly. "Something we need to tell you."
"Mom?" Shane asks, confused. Shane stares at his mother, waiting for the rest of the explanation, but nothing comes. Mom keeps both hands on the steering wheel, her eyes fixed firmly on the road ahead. "What do you mean?" he asks quietly.
"David isn't your biological father."
