Caine isn't a person. He's not like them. He's an AI, programmed to feel fake emotions. Anything he does, anything he demonstrates, it's all fake. Written in code, pre-planned to allow them to relate to him. It's organized, it's not actual emotions. That's what Pomni tells herself to justify what she’s done.
