At his desk, Avery jumped and leaned forward until his nose was barely an inch away from the screen. It glitched out briefly, a black screen replacing the stone of the mine for a split second. Simultaneously, the street lamps outside his college dorm flickered.
The brief absence of light was enough to tear his eyes away from the computer screen and throw his gaze wildly around the room.
The first thing to catch his eye was the flashing red numbers on the digital clock beside his unmade bed.
They read 8:08.
The time he had logged into the world that day.

She was stunning. Of course, she was always beautiful, but here, with a loose, flowy shirt, long hair shifting gently in the breeze, and the sort of confidence that had only been present since her recent discovery of her magical capabilities, she seemed a thousand times more comfortable and confident and beautiful than she had a week prior.
Apo really wanted to kiss them.

Summary
The cat brushes past her, hitting her in the face with its still damp tail, getting hair in Katie’s mouth and nose. She gags, splutters, and sneezes violently. The cat, apparently, does not care.
Following it into Bek’s apartment, she finds, as she enters the kitchen, a person who must be the cat, because Katie hadn’t let any other scowling visitors in, with a tin of tuna and a thick slab of bread in their hands. They’re scooping chunks of tuna out of the tin, alternating between eating it by the handful, and spreading it across the nice sourdough bread Bek had picked up that morning.
Or, AU where Kitty can turn from human to cat and Katie has some unresolved sibling problems to deal with.

When they first meet, Letty is bright eyed and cheerful, and Victoire is close mouthed and wary. They’re in the same room, and as soon as they’re alone, Letty rolls her eyes and says, in her perfect, crisp, entirely English voice that it must be because they’re women. It catches Victoire off guard, how blatant she is about the prejudice, and she lets herself hope, just for a moment, that this white girl is different. That she might understand. She almost laughs now, looking back. How naive she was, how dazzled she was by Oxford and this sparkling, princess girl in front of her.
