Summary
Two weeks ago, Cocolia turned the Engine of Creation on her own city. The quake that followed tore open Belobog's bedrock and buried a quarter of the Underworld alive. Now the IPC arrives with relief ships and a payment schedule, and a Council that never wanted Bronya in charge is using the chaos to make its move.
Alexander Salvatore is the only man on the planet who already knows how this story ends. He'd have more attention to spare for it if the Herta Space Station weren't also trying to kill him. In a sealed lab beneath the station, Ruan Mei has grown a copy of an Emanator that died with the Swarm, and she has not been honest with anyone about what it will cost to finish.
So he takes both. The man who arrived in this universe screaming and praying is gone, and whatever came back in his place walks into danger like it's paperwork. His friends have decided that's what growth looks like, and he hasn't corrected them.
