His hands combed Will’s hair back, away from his grimy face.
His fingertips brushed along his hairline, tracing the edge of Will’s brows, his eyelids—he swept his thumb under Will’s eyes, wiping away the tears that had just fallen.
Will stood there and let Mike’s hand wander. His legs felt unsteady, his heart beat against his throat. He felt helpless under Mike’s touch, but he did nothing to stop it.

Summary
Mike leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Will's cheek. The scar there was slightly raised beneath his lips; it was warmer than the surrounding skin. He lingered for a second before pulling away, brushing Will's hair back from his face.
It had gotten longer again—not nearly as long as it had been before, but enough that his bangs had fallen across his forehead, skimming the tops of his brows. Mike carefully tucked a few strands behind Will's ear, his touch feather-light.
The goal wasn't to wake him. Mike was perfectly content to stand there and admire him while he slept. His face was soft, more relaxed than it had been these past few weeks.

Three years after Will saved Hawkins—after he helped drag the world out of the darkness—he was forced to confront a far more difficult reality: recovery wasn't easy. It was messy and exhausting and sometimes ugly and brutal.
