Summary
Elliot's strategy to survive his time as unscathed as possible is to keep to himself, mind his own business, and be scrupulously even-handed. He provides medical services and tattoo designs for anyone, even the goddamn Nazis, though they don't ask for much, thank Christ. [...]
That weird little bastard Toxic has been instrumental in making it clear that Elliot is not to be messed with, and Elliot still isn't sure why. Elliot can't do anything about the inhibitor collar he's wearing, that would add a cool twenty years to his own sentence, and there isn't really anything else Toxic seems to need.

Summary
Elliot has spent his sentence carefully avoiding human sexuality outside of things in books and giving it the occasional silent, utilitarian crank in the dead of night. [...] Keeping his back to the room in the showers and getting clean as quickly as possible, not making eye contact with anyone, not looking at any part of anyone even if they are beautiful... just not doing anything stupid.
But now, Elliot is definitely doing stupid things. He is too goddamn old for this, but no one told any part of him below the neck.

Summary
If being wanted is startling, fallling in love is terrifying. Elliot's life isn't his own, and neither is Toxic's. Neither of them can afford to be in love, this is ridiculous! But Toxic just does it, like loving anyone in this hard, grey place isn't insanity. It's somewhere between idiotic and inspirational.
