Summary
It's always we, with Sylus. Whenever he offers you something. It's never I, never just you. Always we, always a pair, like he can't imagine existing separately from you. There is no Sylus without you; there is no you without Sylus. He carries you now, and you rest against the curve of his neck like you belong there. A perfect fit. Two perfect puzzle pieces slotted together. Two halves of a soul that have spent their entire lives searching for the other. You feel safe for what might be the first time. “I think I hate you,” you say.
(or, a look into the grief that comes when the only love you've ever known ends in loss, when anger is all that remains in you, when you run out of people to blame.)

Summary
Stupid, stupid, stupid, you curse yourself, tears welling in your eyes. This is what you deserve, you suppose. This was your punishment for hoping. For longing. For wanting anything at all. You are never allowed to want anything, much less allowed to actually have it. So often, things played out as they are now: the object of your desires so close you can feel it, but you know you won’t have it. You don’t deserve two weeks of a dreamy, beach vacation with the man you love. You don’t deserve salt-curled hair, or the way your freckles pop when you get sun, or the feeling of an expensive dress on your sun-kissed skin. You don’t deserve to stand at Sylus’s side in such a beautiful setting. And that’s proven by him not being here, isn’t it? You’re alone in this elegant hotel room. The curtains are closed, but if you opened them, you would see the sea. Maybe that’s why you closed them as soon as you came in; you couldn’t bear the reminder of what you couldn’t have.
(or, a fever ruins the vacation of your dreams, and you convince yourself that you didn't deserve to dream of it in the first place)

Summary
“... I don't know what else I could be, if not a Hunter,” she murmured.
“You don't have to do anything.”
“You're saying you want me to be a jobless leech?”
He chuckled. “I’m saying I’ll support you no matter where your path takes you. Whatever you want to do — or don't want to do — I’ll take care of everything.”
“... You mean that?”
“I mean everything I say to you.”
“... I guess I’ll keep that in mind.”
“That's all I ask.” He framed her face in both hands and leaned to press a soft kiss to her forehead. “I will always take care of what's mine. That's my promise to you.”
After so long spent working to the bone, her exhaustion has caught up to her: she can barely stay awake. The Hunter's Association forces her to take several weeks off to recover, but what is she supposed to do? Her job is everything she has. And even beyond that, it's not like she can take care of herself. Not like this, not when she's too burnt out to function. But... Well, at least she has Sylus. If nothing else, he'll take care of her. Even when she's hardly a ghost of herself.
