Summary
"Take me home, Jayce," Viktor croaks, voice barely above a whisper.
"No. Absolutely not," Jayce gestures angrily towards the door, "You heard the doctor!"
Viktor fixes Jayce with a stern look, although the impact of it is somewhat diminished by the bruising beneath his eyes and the hollowness of his cheeks. "If I am to die, I will do so in my own bed."
Viktor is dying, and Jayce will be by his side until the very end.

Summary
He watches Jayce's descent — all it takes is a badly timed stumble, the mere slip of a foot mid-chase, and Jayce is sent free-falling through a crack in the ground; down, down, down.
This won't be the first Jayce he loses.
It never gets any easier.
If there is one thing Viktor has learned, it is that he cannot undo his mistakes. Not by himself. And so, he waits at the end of all things for the one person who can.

Summary
He hesitates — it's not too late yet, he can still pretend be normal. Can head home, get maybe an hour or two of fitful sleep, and act as though this momentary lapse in judgment never happened.
But he's just so tired.
Alone and exhausted, Jayce finds comfort somewhere he shouldn't and sets off a chain reaction.
