Summary
“Why can’t you stay?” Eddie asked, looking sad and confused and maybe a little panicked. “It’s my last night, Buck. Stay.”
“I can’t.” Buck admitted, the words bursting out before he could stop them. He had to pause and take a breath so he wouldn’t shout or anything. He wasn’t mad at Eddie, just frustrated with the whole … situation. “Sorry. I’m sorry for snapping. I can’t, though. I … look, we don’t process emotional shit the same. We never have. You run from emotions, I bury myself in people so I can slow my brain down enough I understand what’s going on.”
“You’re seriously leaving to get laid?” Eddie asked in confusion.
“Sex isn’t the same for you.” Buck shook his head. “For you, sure, it was probably alright, a good stress relief, but you … sex is different for me. The chemicals that are released in my brain allow me to think more clearly and actually process what the fuck is going on and what I’m feeling about everything else. I know it’s a shitty coping mechanism. I get that. But I need that right now. That close, physical connection to another person, even if I never see them again.”
“What can I do to get you to stay?” Eddie asked, looking on the verge of some sort of breakdown.

Summary
Buck had no idea why he was called into the police station. He hadn't done anything, and he'd been doing pretty good keeping his jealousy about everyone getting to know and hang out with Tommy Kinard to himself, he was pretty sure, anyway. But called in to talk about something, having to do a DNA test, and then getting put in a conference room with a little girl that was obviously bored? He had no idea what was going on and just wished someone would tell him something.
Whatever.
He could just make friends with a six year old.

Summary
Eddie … was going to die. He was going to die from spontaneous combustion. Because here he was, walking into his first day as a firefighter in LA, only to come face to face with a past that he never thought he’d see again. Except there he was. Standing there, looking at Eddie with a grumpy expression and zero recognition in his eyes. Not like Eddie. Eddie remembered everything about the guy from when they were younger. Eight years had been a long time not to see someone, but those blue eyes were exactly the same and the birthmark was almost brighter and prettier than it had been the first time he’d seen it. And, Jesus, how could Eddie not stare at those legs? They were more muscular than they had been when Eddie was 19 and Buck (because apparently he wasn’t Evan anymore) was 18.
or
Eddie and Shannon Diaz, happily divorced and co-parenting their son Christopher, never told anyone, literally anyone, that technically, biologically, Christopher wasn't Eddie's son. They never told another living soul that they got married because of a week of threesomes with a guy when they were 19 and the guy was 18. Granted, they also never expected to ever run into Evan Buckley again, but their lives were never that simple.

With Maddie, Chimney, and Jee-Yun gone, the station becomes a little strained. But something is bothering Eddie and Buck can't stand to see Eddie struggle. With his daughter's approval, they go over to the Diaz house and the rest is basically history.

Summary
Buck had a complicated relationship with grief. Or with the grieving process. Both. Whichever. He never really got to experience the complex emotions associated with any of it. Not when he learned about Daniel. Not when he found Eddie broken and sobbing in his bedroom after taking a bat to the walls because his PTSD was drowning him. Not when he, himself, died and was trapped in a coma world. Not when he found out Eddie lied to him and was dating his dead wife’s doppelganger. Not when Chris left. Not when Eddie left. So openly grieving Bobby was a no starter. He broke down when it happened, the same as when he told Christopher about Eddie being shot. Where no one he knew could see or judge. Where they wouldn’t have to worry more about his grief over theirs.
OR
After Eddie is back in LA for Bobby's funeral, after the fight in the kitchen, he doesn't just sit back and let the fight stand. Buck doesn't want keep fighting, but he's tired and frustrated. He's tired of people demanding his grief be shared when none of them are experiencing the same grief.

Summary
“This walk of shame is exactly why I refused to come to your bachelor party.” Hen said, bumping her hip with Eddie as she accepted her drink. “Pink’s a good color on you.”
“I think so.” Eddie smiled when Hen laughed. “No idea what happened to my actual shirt, but this was left in the room by someone, so at least I’m not just in a jacket and my pants. Then Buck would be really pissy about me stealing his thunder.”
“I am allowed to have my coming out in peace.” Buck whined. “Maddie thinks I’m an idiot, even if she won’t say it, for not realizing I was what I was.”
“And what is that?” Karen asked interestedly.
“Bi maybe?” Buck shrugged. “Somewhere around there. I’ll figure it out. But I will also be annoyed that Eddie looks like he’s in his own coming out arc and looks amazing.”
“You’re pretty all the time, let me have my moment.” Eddie stuck his tongue out.
“You’re both ridiculous.” Bobby said, shaking his head.
OR
The bachelor party was more intense than Buck and Eddie originally thought. Cue break-ups, coming out arcs, and reopened trauma that lead to the Buckley-Diaz family establishment and expansion.

Summary
“You said you can’t diagnose.” Buck pointed out, still trying to breathe. “Fine. Cool. Give me a hint or idea.”
“Fine,” the guy showed Buck the device and slowly put it over his abdomen again, turning the screen so Buck could see as well, “see this?”
“Yeah.” Buck groaned.
“I’ve seen this same thing, thousands of times.” He said carefully, moving around enough that Buck could see something he didn’t really understand.
“In women.” Buck stated. “That’s not- no, what the actual fuck is happening?”
“Maybe I can take a look?” A woman said, walking in and looking at the screen. Her hands froze and she frowned before looking at the handheld device and Buck. “Other side.” When the thing moved, they saw the same thing only much more normal looking. “I have so many questions, but they are going to have to wait until we get these cysts removed and drained.”
OR
Buck goes to the ER when the severe pain in his abdomen causes him to actually call in sick. Getting emergency surgery to clean up burst ovarian cysts thrust him into a lot of therapy about his body.

Summary
“Hello, Firefighter Buckley.” Wells said stiltedly. Buck sort of locked up when she stopped in front of him at the coffee shop. He did not want to make a scene, but he absolutely did not want to be near this woman, either. She didn’t want to be seeing him any more than he did her, if the panic in her eyes was anything to go by.
“Mama?” A little girl that couldn’t have been more than five, said, watching Buck curiously. Once again, Buck was frozen. She had blonde hair with loose curls hanging over her shoulders, blue eyes, and a birthmark similar to Buck’s but over the opposite eye. Hers was larger, covering more of her eyelid where Buck’s had a small gap. They were complementary, almost. Like the middle part that was missing from Buck’s was hers.
