Summary
I'm back with more Shakespeare shenanigans, this time it's Jaime/Brienne in a modern setting with Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" as a guide.
This play is real weird. It's a comedy (in name only) about moral rigidity and how fundamentalism leads to corruption. And it's open ended too. My Shakespeare prof said that is Shakespeare getting fed up with the rules of comedy and pushing back on the form, and it was the last comedy he wrote too.
Here's the rough outline: The Duke has left town, and put Angelo in charge. Angelo has arrested Claudio and charged him with fornication because he and his wife have not completed all the technical requirements of marriage and she is now pregnant.
Claudio's sister, Isabella, a novice nun, pleads with Angelo to let her brother go, and Angelo tells her that if she'll surrender her virginity to him, he'll let Claudio go.
