Her father’s death, life in the orphanage, and what happened to her there never let her go. In a confrontation hessonite defeats the crystal gems again and captures them, taking them onto her vessel as prisoners. Pearl accepts Hessonite's sadistic offer to become her pearl in trade of Hessonite not making the others' time as her prisoners too uncomfortable to try and find a way out of the situation and deliver information back to the others.
