Summary
In the book, The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley, we meet Graham Gore, an Arctic explorer and Navy Lieutenant Commander, pulled off the ice by a time machine, and his "bridge" the un-named narrator of the story. Also, there is Adela, a Vice-Secretary of the Ministry of Time and slowly there is a creeping realization who she really is. At the end of the story she lets it be known that she is married to the very first Graham Gore who was taken off the ice, and that they have a son. A few other hints have been laid about Adela as the first bridge and her husband being the first Graham and it is so tempting to explore their story, which would be completely different than the one told about the two main characters in the book. So, four chapters. The first is Graham waking up in the Wards. The second is about their first time making love with each other, The third will be about how he negotiated their future, and the fourth how the two of them will walk into that future, together.

If you haven’t read The Ministry of Time, this story takes place about fifteen minutes into the future, and Captain Reginald-Smyth is a soldier from WWI who, like Gore, has come unstuck in time for a short while. You don’t need to know much else!

She faints. Women still do that in this time? He has yet to see it happen. He’s supporting her, touching her more than he’s ever done before. He has been so strict with himself, and yet here he is. The singers can’t possibly in all reality be singing “You really got a hold on me, you really got a hold, baby. I love you and all I want you to do is just hold me. Hold me, hold me, hold me. Tighter. Tighter!” —can they? Has the act of finally (finally!) touching her caused him to lose his mind in time, as the Wellness Team feared? He cannot say. Then, obediently and suddenly, he tugged h/n toward him. He lowered his head and his breath stirred the hair by her ear. “Behave yourself or I will put you in the stock.” She thinks he is speaking to her, but this is directed to himself.
