Summary
Months after being released from the NUS hospital, V returns to Night City, and tries to start over. She gets a job as the manager of a new club downtown. At work one Friday night, she sees something that totally rocks her world: Judy Alvarez out on the dance floor.... Seeing one another again sets off a chain reaction of events. Eventually, the two women begin an affair. But as the months pass, Valerie grows more and more resentful with being Judy's mistress. When things inevitably come to a head, will V finally decide to move on from the past, even if it means saying goodbye to Jude forever?

Judy has a moment of clarity. Two months after her & V's final conversation, she suddenly realizes how special, how unique and one of a kind their love for each other actually was. Unbeknownst to Valerie, she quits her job, separates from her wife, and drives back to Night City, all in the desperate hope of resurrecting their relationship. Obviously, V’s shocked. Her emotions are all over the place. After being in a coma for two years, she just wants to be normal again. On the one hand, she’s still devastated by how easily her lover and best friend could dismiss her. On the other, maybe that wasn’t how Judy really felt deep down inside? Maybe she was just in shock. Why else would she act so cold and unloving? As V begins examining her own role in the collapse of their relationship, she wonders if she could've done more to save it. Judy tries balancing the past with the present, but how does anyone reconcile so much guilt and remorse? Can things ever truly go back to the way they were?

They haven't seen each other face to face in over twelve years. She confides to Valerie that her wife, Bianca, has become increasingly abusive and possessive. Judy says she's basically being held captive in their home. She has no money, no car, no job. Nothing.... Bianca controls everything. She asks V to forgive her for what happened in 2079, and to let her come and stay with her.... But how does Valerie feel about all this? Has she moved on with her life, and does she really want to revisit old memories, and heartaches?
This story will explore the ever-changing dynamics of V & Judy's relationship in the future. It will attempt to answer the question: Does true love really last forever, or is it nothing more than a fantasy?

They strike up a conversation, and as their relationship progresses, Valerie's true motives become more and more apparent. Will her plan work, or will it backfire in her face? The year is 2079. Vega 'V' Hawse awakes in an unfamiliar setting with familiar faces, namely, Rosalind Myers and Solomon Reed. She learns that she has been in a coma for two years, and that Myers has been keeping tabs on her recovery. Driven by a new sense of duty to the NUSA, and a personal devotion to Rosalind Myers, V becomes the President's personal FIA agent, and the pair are rarely separate for long. Rumours abound Washington of the nature of their relationship. Is it merely business, or is there something else going on?Meanwhile, in Night City, people deal with the changes in the aftermath of V's presumed death at the hands of Adam Smasher inside Arasaka Tower. Left with the important task of continuing Judy Alvarez's work in tuning virtus for the Mox after her departure from Night City with her new wife, Bianca, Valerie Ocampo-Gonzalez (first seen in Brother's Shadow) and her wife, Melanie, bristle under the weight of Judy's legacy with the Mox. All the while, a conspiracy begins to unfold.
