Dina kissed her so suddenly that Amy wasn’t even sure what was happening at first. Her eyes went wide and she stiffened with surprise, back going rigid as Dina leaned into her. It was perfunctory, business-like, exactly how she’d imagined Dina would kiss. If she’d ever imagined kissing Dina, which she definitely hadn’t.
“Huh,” Dina hummed thoughtfully when she pulled away, running her tongue across her bottom lip. “Well, it definitely wasn’t great. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had worse, but I’d give that a three.” She paused to reconsider. “You know what, two-point-five.”
“I wasn’t ready,” Amy defended, realizing just a moment too late that that wasn't why she should be upset.

Tobias couldn't stop fidgeting. He didn't remember the train from London to Paris being so long the last time he took it. Although the last time he was on the train, he had been choreographing a new piece, something to keep him busy. Recently, every new idea he had seemed to drift in and disappear just as quick like a word on the tip of your tongue, unreachable. It was infuriating. His notebooks were just full of scribbles, shapes, whispers of ideas but no cohesion. Maybe being back in Paris was the jump-start he needed to recalibrate, refocus.
Maybe seeing Gabin again would help.

“Cheyenne sent it to me,” Gabin frowned.
Tobias rolled his eyes with a sigh, “Of course. I keep telling Nicholas to take that off his office wall. I think Jack puts it back up when I’m not there.”
“You do not like it?”
Tobias made a scrunched face at him, “Does anyone like looking at pictures of themself at 22?”
“Oh. So it is not because. . .” Gabin waved his hand a little, as if it would finish his sentence for him.
“Because what?” Tobias tilted his head.
Gabin faltered for a moment, glancing back down at the photo. Now that he was looking for it, he could see the second crutch leaned against the risers, mostly blocked by the man with curly hair - Jack.

Tobias holds out his hand, steals her cigarette as she passes. He takes a long, slow drag, tries to quell the heart battering his lungs. It is enough that she is here with him, that she has chosen to spend the rest of her time smoking his cigarettes and stealing his bed, borrowing his baby sister's clothes.
She collapses next to him under the moon bright dawn, the scrape of brick at their back, city spilling out at their feet. Perhaps this is the curse of loving Cheyenne Toussaint, the balance of holding her tightly enough that she feels wanted, but not so tightly that she feels caged.
“I am going to Paris,” Cheye rasps, gaze tilted to the hazy sky. Tobias holds the smoke in his lungs, lets it go.
