Summary
When she learned she would be wed to her father, Carina was overjoyed.
When it was Head Priest Domnus who guided her from her room, large hand eclipsing her little shoulders, to practice for her wedding night— she was ecstatic.
Carina had many she called ‘Father,’ but Domnus was her favorite. He had gentle hands, and knew she preferred ginger candy and cookies over the others, and read her bedtime stories while she sat in his lap, until her eyelids drooped, head heavy with tales of valour and light and love.
Now, Father Domnus seats her atop the altar in the deepest room in the temple.
Father Domnus must teach the eight year old holy maiden how to masturbate, so that she may train to one day be able to receive her divine father on her wedding night.
Unfortunately, Domnus wants the girl for himself.

Summary
August stays quiet throughout dinner, signaling that he’d like to take watch with just a simple nod. He manages a smile for Misty, a gentle reassurance that he’s fine, that his head is just too busy for sleep at the moment, as it often is, and declines her offer of staying up with him. He pretends that his coat still needs mending until everyone is asleep, then puts aside his needle and thread, placing his head in his hands.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
The words are shadow given sound, and if his time in the Hive hadn’t taught August that silence and stillness meant safety, he might have shouted and lashed out at the voice before realizing it was Skreev.
August’s moth hisses, wings fluttering.
“I wasn’t asking you, Mister Fuzzy.”

Summary
The thing about having six hands is that you can do many things at once. Even as August weaves the ends of the necklace together around Violet’s neck, one of his upper hands rubs at his mouth, pressing hard against remembered pain. The scars there are too old to be seen unless you know what to look for, but August can feel the faint divots under his fingers.
“Adelia, who sewed Violet’s mouth shut?”

Summary
“What are you going to make?” Misty’s voice is as soft as it can be, sand whispering over stone.
“You’ll see.” August looks around before letting his two other pairs of arms emerge through the cleverly disguised holes in his coat. A day ago, he wouldn’t have dared reveal himself out in the open like this. However, that had been before a good portion of the settlement had seen him fly and weave spells. Besides, few people are awake and out on the paths, and those few aren’t near enough to the sad remains of the Pyre and the bloody ashes that stain the ground to see either August or Misty, not in the low light of his spark. “At least, I hope you will. I haven’t done this in…. a very long time.”
