There were three cardinal rules of hiding: Be quiet. Be still. Be strong.
The first one wasn’t so hard. She had learned quickly covering your mouth with your hand muffled your breathing and crying never made you feel better, only got you caught faster.
The second was simple in concept, but harder to control. She shook when she was afraid. It was pathetic, but unavoidable. The easiest way to mitigate the tremors was to curl up as small as possible and hope your hiding spot was good enough to go undetected.
The third eternally seemed to evade her. She was strong. It took strength to survive, and if there was one thing she was good at, it was surviving. But it always seemed to dissipate when it mattered most. Like now.Dani has a panic attack under her desk
