Summary
Henry spent most of Sam and Evie’s wedding at the piano, plunking out every romantic song he could think of for the happy couple.
They’d asked him to play, of course; he hadn’t just commandeered the nearest piano to ignore the party. Ignoring the party—specifically, the dancing—was just a bonus.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t happy for the newlyweds. He was, deliriously so; the looks on their faces as they’d kissed at the altar had brought tears to his eyes, just as it had Theta to his left and Miriam in the front row. But this was the first wedding Henry had been to since he was a child, and he found himself surprisingly maudlin at the joy of it—a joy that he could never partake in himself.

Summary
A knock came at David’s door on Monday, May 30, 1927, at exactly 10:37pm. He was no Diviner, but somehow, as soon as the knock came, he knew exactly who it was on the other side.
Henry looked, for lack of a better word, lank, as he stood on David’s threshold, his expression haggard and hopeful, deep bags under his eyes. He looked like he hadn’t slept in a week; even his hair hung lifelessly around his handsome face. “Hi, honey,” he said, his lush mouth pursing up in a smile that attempted his usual charm. “I’m home."
