Padmé is negotiating with Chancellor Chuchi and the Senate about becoming Empress. Rex is hovering menacingly and worriedly behind her. They’d both forbidden him from coming – something about ‘aggressive negotiations not being needed right now’ and also citing that someone had to stay with Padmakin.
Anakin likes taking care of his daughter. He doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. If Padmé does become Empress, and Rex is her consort in public, then he can stay at home and raise little Padma. Maybe even more little Padmas.

Rex snorts, and when he speaks, he sounds tired and hoarse but content. “I understand. I – that’s what I mean when I love, too. All of that.”
“And what marriage means to me is, you’re both disaster gremlins, but you’re my disaster gremlins and I can kiss you whenever I want without the tabloids making a scandal of it,” Padmé says. “Go to sleep, boys. Shmi is bringing Padma back in the morning and we’ll need it.”
Anakin falls asleep with his face comfortably squashed into the back of Rex’s neck, holding hands with Padmé, and with a happier heart than he has had since he was a child.

“I’ve just got to make some last measurements and I’ll have a new one all done by like, tomorrow,” Anakin says. “That should help him, right?” There are dark circles under his eyes and his hair is so greasy that it’s sticking together in clumps.
“The day after tomorrow, because you’re going to actually sleep first,” says Rex, entering the room. He has the baby. She’s sleeping in a sling on his chest, and he’s only wearing the undersuit of his armor so that she is comfortable. He looks the most put together of all of them, which is almost a sign of the apocalypse, considering that before today Cody has never seen Senator Amidala with so much as a hair out of place. Yet she is hovering over Obi-Wan, looking just as tired and unkempt and worried as her husband.
“The day after tomorrow,” Anakin amends sheepishly.
Cody raises an eyebrow at Rex, who returns it with interest and a tilt of his head towards General Kenobi. Cody glares at him, wondering if it’s worth it to drop his shields that are keeping all the voices of his brothers out of his head. It had taken them a few days to collectively figure out how to do it, but they are all grateful for the break.
