Jonathan stops his pacing and grips the backrest of the chair until it creaks, looking over at Geoffrey finally. “McCullum – Geoffrey – what am I to you?” He licks his lips.
Metal, and molten, and red.
He gets no answer, or perhaps he does when Geoffrey rises from the bed, kicks aside the chair and grabs hold of Jonathan to kiss him, so much hungrier than the last time.
“Do you make me do this? Are you making me feel these things, driving me mad?” Geoffrey asks with the punctuation of another vehement kiss. “You'd convinced me you only feed from evil, Jonathan. I’ve been made to see the length of my life, forward and back in this irony, and now you know it. You know I'm no good. Not in the eyes of any god anymore. And now, there's no hope for my soul.”

A sequence of events depicting the tempestuous growth between Reid and McCullum after the game's main storyline.There is no real over-arching plot here, folks, but the chapters do happen chronologically.

McCullum always considers turning him away, wonders if this will be the night Reid allows the beast free and the Guard of Priwen will be forced to hunt him down or die trying. But he never does. -

Cavalier Ekon are systematically targeting members of the Guard, and any hunter is fair game. Geoffrey is attacked and brought to Pembroke Hospital, where he is treated by their trauma specialist: a new leech doctor.

Warm, luscious liquid permeated the gauze and soaked between his fingers. It smelled delicious and then some, made Jonathan want to melt to the floor and lick. He shook off this thought with effort. He shifted to apply pressure and gingerly lifted the man's neck and head to elevate them on a pillow. Jonathan kept count of Geoffrey's heartbeats for awhile to occupy his mind as his hand was coated in blood.
Jonathan crouched to inspect the wound and feel for where the blood was rising. It was bloody and raw, reminiscent of an animal bite and was nearly the size of his palm. Some of the damage was surface level, as if blunt teeth had scraped the skin back. The attacker had pierced a carotid artery in at least one or two places. There was no questioning which varietal of beast had done the damage: a beast like Jonathan had become.

"What are you doing Reid?" The question came from across the table where Geoffrey was perched. The sun had just gone down and Jonathan was taking a moment to read this morning's newspaper while Geoffrey prepared for his night shift. The coffee pot in their shared kitchen rumbled and choked out puffs of steam as it streamed the bitter earthy brew into the awaiting mug beneath the dispenser.
He was just sitting down with a light sandwich for the early "morning" that had become their evening routine. Jonathan turned the page of the paper over and hummed thoughtfully.
"Reading." He answered simply, his prim and proper words stifled by the object held firmly between his teeth. The subtle chirp and squeak made the Irishman stare even more. "The price of gas went up again, Geoffrey. You should fuel up this evening before it jumps again."
"That's not what I mean." Geoffrey sighed and wiped his hands clean on a napkin. "I meant what are ya doing with that thing in yer mouth?" He pointed towards the doctor's face where the toy was lodged between his right incisors.
"It's my stress toy." Jonathan explained simply.

Once again, Jonathan was reminded of the professional failings of his own human condition. Even during this mandatory break, he still lacked the common sense to actually take a break. In doing so, he has succumbed to a very mortal flaw. Between exhaustion and stress, the human body was susceptible to a sudden decrease in immunity and a weakness against foreign invaders into its system.
