Mighty screams from a small being bounced off the walls in the small house. Her cries travelled from the nursery all the way to her fathers’ bedroom, where the two men groaned and covered their faces with deflated pillows. Their respective brown and blue eyes had deep grey bags hanging below them, sleep proving to be a luxury they would no longer be able to afford.
“Who’s turn izzit it check in on ‘er?” Okuyasu grumbled, speech more slurred and scratchy than it typically is.

Josuke hoped that there was someplace in Morioh that would take his nephew. And, with a quick search on his old laptop, he found a nice daycare that was only a few blocks away.

Summary
Work had been exceptionally draining that day, leaving Josuke with such incredible aches and pains that it could have sent him right back to the emergency room. His spine felt as if it was going to separate from the rest of his skeleton entirely, his feet pleaded to be liberated from the excessive time they had spent with the floor, and his neck was so stiff that it had blurred the boundary between flesh and stone.
Yet, as soon as he entered the door to the apartment he shared with Okuyasu, all the bad things seemed to instantly fade away.

...He looked up to see a storefront he didn’t recognize. From the awning hung dozens of tiny hoses that automatically sprayed water onto what looked like hundreds of flowers displayed out front. Most of the plants were in cardboard vases filled with dirt, with the spare bouquets being decoratively displayed by the doorframe. Hanging against the top of the building was a hand painted sign: Nijimura’s Flowers.
“Score.” Josuke thought to himself, a newly renewed energy in his step as he approached the shop’s door.

A soft summer breeze crept in through the kitchen window hugging the warmth of the two men’s bodies.

Josuke was having a totally normal afternoon, thank you very much. He was not nervous about having his best friend Okuyasu sitting next to him on his couch, he was not wondering if the meal they’d shared earlier counted as a date, he was not wiping his sweaty palms discreetly on his pants whenever Okuyasu turned away from him to focus on the TV, and he was certainly not thinking about how soft Okuyasu’s lips looked. No, Josuke was totally cool.
Okuyasu, however, seemed completely oblivious to the turmoil that was definitely not occurring inside of Josuke. Okuyasu was playing Mario Kart.

Peering up from the medical textbook he was hunched over, Josuke looked over to where he heard Okuyasu’s voice coming from. His partner loomed over the dining table, hands pressed against the old wooden surface and neck craned down as his plain eyes scanned a paper menu placed below him.
“I’m thinking of getting some sort of scallopini dish, so we could probably share that if we also get some appetizers. That sound good to you?”

Rain pounded heavily on the streets of Morioh. Flowers that bloomed with the turn of spring received their first showers as curbs alongside the road were flooded by swift streams. The final bell announcing the end of the day rang in the high school and students poured out of the building, various colors of umbrellas popping up over their heads. Some of them opted to wear raincoats with hoods, and others were lucky enough to stand under the dry awning of the bus stops as they waited for their transportation to arrive.
Josuke, on the other hand, had left his umbrella at home.

They had treasured the friendship that they ended up having but, to this day, Okuyasu had always had such a deeply rooted admiration for Josuke that his emotions ended up getting the best of him.
