When Dan finally approaches him, Herbert throws a peculiar request at him. Though, Dan supposes, it's not more peculiar than Herbert's usual requests.

After escaping during the riots at Arkham prison, Herbert has only one thing on his mind: Revenge. He soon discovers the project that's held his focus for the last thirteen years: A new body, superior to the bride in every way. As it develops, Daniel's creation becomes the final remnant of Herbert's scientific genius - And, perhaps, the last chance for their relationship to heal after so much time apart.

“You came back?” Herbert said, voice soft.
Dan just nodded slightly. A lump rose in Dan’s throat. Herbert’s response had ripped a small tear in Dan’s heart. He’d never seen West look so…lost. So dazed and unguarded. Uncertainty replaced the typically acute stare behind those thick lenses. Dan tenderly reached for Herbert’s trembling hand. Finally holding onto the hand he regretted letting go of. He expected Herbert to flinch at his touch. Instead, Herbert gripped Dan’s hand like it was the only thing tethering him to reality.
Basically: Herbert dies in the Miskatonic Massacre and Dan re-animates him, hurt/comfort ensues.

(Set after Bride of Re-Animator with a few caveats: Dan didn't date Francesca in Bride, he also saved Herbert in the crypt).
(Updates will be pretty regular but not scheduled because of the short chapters and the fact that I'm genuinely enjoying writing this!)
In a one-sided obsession with the man he chooses not to love, Herbert west finds himself concealing secrets, his emotions, and his work. He battles with being misinterpreted and villainised by Dan. His mind struggles to keep up with his heart as Dan, after all this time together, reiterates moving out and leaving Herbert forever. -
