Summary
“Mista… Ransom?” Rita manages to mumble through the pounding in her head. Mista Ransom. Peter Ransom, Not-Ransom, Nureyev. She remembers. They’re not in Hyperion anymore, nowhere even near Mars, and haven’t been for months. She’s not a secretary and Mista Steel isn’t a detective and their home is the Carte Blanche, the most glorious spaceship in the universe with the best crew and they’re… family.
The line is quiet for a few seconds. “Rita?”
She tries to sit up, groans when the movement makes bile rise in her throat. On the other end of the call, Ransom pipes up again. “Rita, are you hurt? Where are you? What happened?”
A heist goes wrong, and Rita finds herself alone, with Juno injured and unconscious.

Summary
She was the youngest out of all of them and the smallest too; everyone had looked down at her then, with something in their gazes that made her want to shrink back into herself. It wasn’t until years later that she realized that the thing she feeling was not her fear but theirs, and that the thing in their eyes that scrutinized her, examining her, was jealousy and judgement.
They became wary of her—scared and envious of her abilities. In their eyes, she was different, and Rita herself didn’t know whether that was a good thing or not.
Rita doesn’t remember too much from her childhood, but there are a few things that have stuck with her over the years.

Rita fumbled with the tape recorder. “Okay! Statement of, uh, Cassandra Kanagawa, regarding…”
“A lot of things,” Cass crossed her arms. “But I guess it started with the time my stepmother buried me alive.”
“Thanks, Miss Kanagawa. Anyway, statement begins.”

“Boy problems, Mista Steel?” She got a muffled groan in response. That's a yes then. Rita glanced away from her screen for just a moment, debating whether this particular case was worth stopping the stream. “What happened now?”
“He wore that one corset today,” Juno said morosely, voice projecting away from her. Rita paused her stream. “The maroon one.” Ah.
“The one that makes you think about how far you can reach your hands ‘round his waist?” Juno gave another groan, this time in agreement. Rita sighed and ate a small salmon-flavored chip.
