Summary
When one world ends, another will rise from the sands of its failure. Survivors of this scorched world have made a home from the ruins of their predecessors. They live under the shadow of fallen rusted cities or fragile oases that balance on the precipice of ruin. Robots made of brass and steel roam the land, hordes of metal beasts hunting any organic life. For those hoping to explore, traveling through the sun-scorched desert is nearly impossible. Pirates, beasts, and winds of sand and rust challenge even the greatest adventure. Despite all this, humans persist, using machines that tower over trees or speeding bikes that hover over the ground to traverse the dunes. “Violence isn’t the answer.” VR-LA added, making Dani slouch further in her chair. “Unless somebody refuses to change their behavior.” VR-LA continued, making Dani immediately bounce back up into sitting up straight.
“Wait, so she can if the guy messes up?” Finbar asked, receiving a loud cackle from Dani, something similar to a witch from a play. “I feel bad for whoever will have to clean that up.”
VR-LA responded with his usual, far too creepy and fake diplomatic smile, something that made Kyana immediately feel like something bad was about to happen, given the situations he normally uses it in. “I’m sure they can clean their office themselves before they leave.”
Dani was still cackling and Kyana was pretty sure she was seconds from choking on her own breath, so Kyana swiftly tried to change the topic.

Tags will be added, some chapters will have trigger warnings. Dani and Cal are both teens in the early parts of the fic. Cal has a southern accent, but I'm not writing that out.
