Jade Ngô, despite being the child of famous Prime superheroes, did not have a childhood surrounded by many people. For most of it, it was just him, her twin sister Ruby, his bà ngoại and ông ngoại, and when they weren’t busy being heroes, his má and ba.
Or; Jade Ngô didn’t have the most lively childhood, in fact, it was often for her to feel quite alone. There was a disconnect he felt growing up wishing the world were just a little bit kinder to her. Since then, Jade has grown so much: gotten tougher and more confident, done things he never imagined she’d do and is able to fight for what he believes in. Jade now wishes she could tell his younger self the person she ends up growing into and that he deserves the world, no matter what anyone else may think. Jade knows that now and she wishes his younger self did too.

And nothing could ever come in the way of that. A younger Jade used to think there wasn't a single universe in existence where they weren’t twins. (This younger Jade would be right; in every universe they were twins—some happy, some sad—but they loved each other nonetheless).
Or; Jade and Ruby used to be really close, perhaps the closest twins in the world. And then their parents died and without them there, they had lost the ability to see eye to eye. So, Summer doesn’t even think it logical to try and stop Jade from leaving on her mission—he’s not alone, Summer does the same thing, and she’s fighting for the right thing—why should Summer stop him? She doesn’t get to have control of Jade’s life. This thought still doesn’t calm the anxiety in her stomach that raises every time Jade sends Summer a text saying she’s heading out on patrol. Doesn’t stop her from staying up some nights—on the worst nights, where her anxiety is stuck in her throat and leaves a layer of what feels like cement in her stomach—waiting for a text that says he’s home safe.
Or; Summer has never truly liked how dangerous Jade’s vigilante work gets but she’s never been one to stop Jade from doing what she loves. It doesn’t stop Summer from getting anxious when Jade does his vigilante stuff alone. One day in particular, Summer wants Jade to stay—there’s something tugging at Summer’s chest telling her it’s too dangerous to let him go—but ultimately, she lets her leave anyway. Sometimes, Summer can’t help but blame herself for his death because she couldn’t make Jade stay…

Spotting Summer, Jade’s bà ngoại and ông ngoại pause their quiet mix of singing and humming and greet her with warm smiles and inviting hugs. They explain that they’ve already cleaned the apartment and now only need to decorate and cook for the upcoming festivities. Summer notes that the house, even with very few decorations at the moment, already looks amazing.
Summer thinks it looks beautiful and she tells them as such, happy to be there and excited to see more of the decorations. What she doesn’t say, in fear of embarrassing herself, is that her happiness to be here is suddenly swamped by a flurry of butterflies in Summer’s stomach that make themselves apparent when Jade looks at her with an expression of pure excitement. She feels a lovesick grin cross her face and, determined to not look stupid, tries to suppress the inevitable flush that spreads across her face. Summer swears that during this, she will not make a fool of herself.
Her plan does not go well.

Because Summer is the most beautiful performer Jade has ever seen, and Ruby is a well-known podcast host, and Will runs the tech in an underground bar that hosts small artists—Vyncent being one of those small artists—and Dakota volunteers in the local community wherever he can. They’re all so incredibly happy. They all embody grace and lightness, and Jade is so undeniably proud.
So sure, they’re not like their 17-year-old selves who play heroes because they have to, but they’re living their dreams so fuck everyone who hates that. And Jade holds Summer’s hand again like it’s natural instinct for the moon to reach out to the sun, because it is, and he smiles with her happy to be where they all are now.
