He fell into a rabbit hole in which he learned that every person who created some sort of media is able to enter the world they had created throughout history. The first ones stayed a distance away as they were frightened that their intervention would cause the story they created back home, and caused the public to wonder what happened.
However, they realized that their intervention wouldn't change the story they created in their world nor would their deaths cause the early deaths of that world. Instead, it acted like an alternative universe. The only difference is that the people who created that world were their gods, at least, for however long they lived.
