Summary
Something in him begins to shift, like an age-old mountain shifting with tectonic weight. He finds himself pulling his robe from his shoulders and stepping forwards to the red diamond, crouched down on the ground. Gently, he wraps the robe around its bare shoulders – peeking out from its uniform – and lifts it up into his arms. Even for a gemstone, it weighs barely a thing in Qilong’s arms.
“No one’s selling you to anyone, princess,” Qilong says quietly to the soft strands of hair billowing from its head. Gently, he presses a kiss to its forehead. “Now, come. I have a room for you to stay in.” And, simple and quiet, Qilong carries the red diamond back to his quarters.

Summary
In the interrim of Shaw and David living together, between the end of the red dragon and before Shaw & David meet our dear bloodstone, Blood.
Shaw, as a rash and irritable seventeen-year-old, makes the fatal mistake of admitting the "L" word during his first night with David. After David rejects him, Shaw lets his anger and embarrassment lead him to stealing David's sapphire and having it cut, only to realize he never wanted to have David in such a way. Years after he has the sapphire restored, he refuses to acknowledge David as anything but a normal human, and David moves in with him both out of necessity and a desire to reconcile. But Shaw isn't seventeen anymore, and he still bears the scars at age forty that he got in his youth.
