But Chip just keeps calling her that title. He keeps talking about how he’s never had a big sister before, or parents for that matter, and how happy he is that he has a family now. She wants to be happy for him too- but she’s known him for less than a week and she’s afraid of getting close.

Arlin immediately sighed and put away the axe, relieved that there was no threat, but now guilty for scaring a street dog for no good reason. He made his way slowly, trying to keep his steps light. The wolf had curled up on itself and was squeezing its eyes shut. Despite its size, Arlin could tell it was just a scared puppy, as it wasn’t trying to run or fight at all.
Arlin adopts a stray dog; it leads to some unprecedented consequences.
