The musketeers rode two together at each side of the royal carriage, a small retinue trailing behind the like a snake. They were headed for Chateau de Fontainebleau, and his majesty planned to spend a day hunting in the woodland there, but first and foremost they had to arrive. Treville had warned them at the garrison of dissenters, rumoured to be forming on the outskirts of the city, but they had passed that border a while ago now and nothing had come of it. They were all starting to relax.
Shortish fic about a royal carriage accident, and my OC Angelique, who is one of Anne's ladies in waiting. Anne/Aramis is in this but the plot will be centred around Louis as he is my favourite character.

Part IV of my "Secret Lily" Series.
In 1637, eight years before the events in "In/Separable" took place, Grégoire de Sorel resigned his position as ensign in the cardinal's Red Guard in order to be with Lieutenant Charlotte d'Artagnan. When their secret love affair comes to light, they have to disappear from the royal court for a while until the scandal has died down. For this purpose, Cardinal Richelieu sends Sorel and d'Artagnan, together with a delegation of diplomats led by the papal nuncio Giulio Mazzarino, to Cologne to attend the peace negotiations between the nations involved in the Thirty Years' War.
In the war-ravaged German lands, it is not only France's enemies who are waiting for an opportunity to sabotage the negotiations in their favor. There is also foul play within their own ranks, with master spy Rochefort having a finger in the pie. As if intrigues, a murder and constant danger were not enough, Grégoire also has to stand up to his own father, the Marquis de Levis, who disapproves his son's marital choice. It's not quite a sequel so could be read just by itself. If you haven't read Mascarade and want too, please do so.
Having said that, a reminder that d'Artagnan's age is somewhere between seventeen and eighteen. King Louis is around twenty. Lt. Dashiell is around twenty-four to twenty-five.
The story basically will revolve around a so-called good friend of Richelieu's turning out to be a double agent. Shudder the thought!
