“Honey?” Alyssa calls, unlocking the door and ushering in Ellie.
“Connor?” her daughter asks at the same time, putting her bag down on the front bench and undoing her shoes.
The house is oddly quiet, considering that Emma’s car is outside and Connor’s baseball stuff is on its hook, and it’s only when Alyssa and Ellie reach the living room that they understand what’s going on.
There’s a note, two Nerf guns, goggles, and velcro vests.

Summary
In the aftermath of Known Unknown, Emma and Alyssa have gained an unprecedented following. Their restaurant has an out-the-door waiting time every morning, not to mention the fact that private rooms are booked months in advance.
The spotlight has been nice, and it's helped them get their feet under them, especially Emma, in wake of the tragedy that rocked them to their cores. Now, they hear from fans every day, all of them expressing their gratitude, telling their stories.
From there, an idea was born, a tiny glimmer of hope that sparked into something much bigger. And soon, Emma and Alyssa pitched it to Tom Hawkins, Food Network producer: the Unruly Hearts' Club, a little beach hangout spot where all are welcome in walking distance to the Indiana Dunes, hopefully the first of many casual dining spots to be well-known and openly welcoming.
Now, it's just a matter of seeing if the network will go for it, and they'll get picked up for their show which will follow the couple-- and their friends, who make up a newly formed restaurant management group-- as they build their second restaurant from the ground up.

But the further the day went on the bigger it grew until Alyssa sat in AP History, her final class of the day feeling ready to throw up at any moment. She didn’t understand, she didn’t get sick often and when she did she usually had a headache and was cold; today she was queasy and had shed her coat and jumper earlier in the day despite it being early spring and all her peers were shivering in their seats.

“We should get up.” Alyssa giggles softly as Emma whines and holds her tighter.
“No,” Emma mumbles. “Stay with me.” She buries her face in dark hair, breathing her in, grinning when Alyssa shivers as she presses her cold nose against the crook of her neck and shoulder.
“The kids will be up soon,” the woman reminds, trying to detangle herself from the blonde’s grasp but to no avail. It’s not as if she’s putting up much of a fight. Connor can set the shower and get ready for his school presentation on his own, and Ellie never wakes up by herself. They don’t even really need to be out the door until just before noon, so Alyssa just allows herself to fully relent as a strong hand skims under her sleep shirt and forces her further in backwards.
“It’s only nine-twenty,” Emma whispers. “You’re going to let them have twenty more minutes anyway, you softie.”

It wasn't that werewolf and human relationships were illegal, it's just that they were frowned upon by a lot of people. The human was called a "dog-fucker" and "zoophile." The werewolf was called a "beast" and "bitch in heat." Despite all of this, Alyssa and Emma were three years strong and didn't have any intentions on breaking apart what they had.
But when a string of murders runs rampant through the city, they have to try to bring their respective races together before they rip each other to shreds.
After all, nothing is more romantic than solving a murder mystery and ending a race war!

As far as best friends go, Alyssa and Kaylee's home-lives couldn't be more different.
For example, Alyssa’s mother, ever controlling, opens all of her packages because she’s still technically a minor, and she wants to know her business. She also always double bolts the door.
Stacie, Kaylee’s mom, on the other hand, stacks everything by the kitchen counter, couldn’t care less what her daughter orders as long as there’s no criminal activity attached to it, and she always leaves the apartment door unlocked so that Kaylee and her friends can get in without any hassle.
These are several of the reasons why she elects to order Emma’s birthday present to the apartment when the time comes, giving Kaylee a perfectly good excuse to tell her mom: that she always orders food to her house, and must have forgotten to change the address.
(Or, the one where Kaylee's mom locks the door for once; the one where Alyssa really just wants to pick up her girlfriend's birthday present; the one where she has to break into her best friend's house. The one with the consensual burglary.)
