The ancient Greeks believe humans once had four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. Pretty weird, if you ask me, but we were happy. Complete, if you will. So complete that the Gods, fearing our wholeness would thwart our need for worship, split us in two. Leaving our split selves to wander the Earth in misery.

The more Martha learned about Moritz, the more she disagreed. Maybe he wasn’t Melchior Gabor, who had a bad habit of talking a lot and not really saying anything. Moritz may not talk much, and the way he talks and thinks may confuse someone who doesn’t really want to listen, but he was smart. Not in school, but in the areas that actually counted. He was smart with feelings, he could feel everything. And he cared so much, even about people who didn’t seem to care much about him.
A heart like that really should count for something.

Ernst let out a long sigh, dropping his bag down to the floor beside him. “For fucks sake. Just fucking kiss me so we can end this all. So I can stop feeling like this and it can all be over and you and I can go back to normal. Back to nothing. Back to acting like we don’t know each other.”
Hanschen just stared, trying to understand the words that were flying at him, process Ernst’s request. He bit at his lip before saying in a voice much smaller than before. “Is that what you want? You want this all to end?”
All of their unspoken words stopped there, standing in the middle of the deserted corridor, each waiting for the other to give in. Relent that a game was being played, relent that this is what they were waiting for, relent that something had to change before they both went completely insane.
“It’s better than whatever we’re doing now.”
