...I have a weakness for epistolary fics.
I also have a weakness for DBZ stories about characters just...living their lives. Being people. Maybe with some alien superpowers thrown in, but mostly just character-driven stories about the natural effects of what canon does to the characters that live in it. I've always kind of wished someone would write a fic like this for Gohan, in this way.
See, this fic is a YA novel, basically. It's a funny, balanced, well-executed book about a guy whose life is pretty okay, but he does have daddy issues, boyfriend issues, being stalked by a girl who won't take no for an answer issues, friend issues, personality flaws, and a really, really annoying art project to do.
This guy just happens to be Son Goten, and maybe his daddy issues are a bit weird since they mostly center around his dad being dead for a good chunk of his life, or his boyfriend issues are a little complex because he's so deeply tied to Trunks by virtue of...you know, canon and aliens and superpowers and being childhood friends. But in the end, it's mostly about taking the implications of the kind of person Goten might be as an effect of canon, and having him live with them and having him and everyone try to become better, happier people, and in a story like DBZ? I think there is something to be said for a story about just letting the characters live.

This is a REALLY old story I happened to find today and one of the few times I ever wrote a silly, simple little story. Mr. Satan is chosen to host a 'Kids Say the Darndest Things' type of show with Trunks and Goten as his guests. I wrote this in a matter of a few minutes one day, but I hope it can provide a chuckle or two. As always, constructive criticism is welcomed and appreciated.
