He's heard it from friends, foes, and everywhere in between. In caring for the people he loves, he makes them happy with words and actions and time well spent. Hajime is forgiving, in most cases. Trusting, and maybe even a bit naive.

    “Umemiya, why the hell do you keep draggin' me up here?"

    It’s not an insult (it's just his name, after all) but with the way it's growled, it may as well be one. Sakura stares him down from across the row of cherry tomatoes. There's dirt on his cheekbone and he’s removed his jacket from the heat, but he still has a nasty glare that could freeze hell over. Hajime idly wonders who he picked that up from. Hiragi? Not likely. Kaji? More plausible. Himself? …well.

    Hajime is a kind man. He’d even go at lengths to say he is a noble one too. Yet, there is something about Sakura Haruka that brings out the devil in him.

Go now, bye!” He says, obviously a made-up lie because Sakura asked them to go without him. Then he pushes Sakura out and shuts the door with a strained expression on his face.

     

    Sakura stood in silence, trying to process what just happened but no matter how hard he tries to wrap his head around it, he can only come to one conclusion.

     

    Did Umemiya just… reject him?

     

    Sakura finally confesses his feelings to Umemiya a month after the school festival incident. Things did not go smoothly and now, it is up to the great Kotoha Tachibana to patch things up between Umemiya and Sakura.

    The brush of his hand on his neck caused Sakura to shiver from pleasure. A spark of embarrassment told him to push Suo away, yet, the larger portion of him didn't want to stop. Instead, he leaned further into it, and as Suo’s hand began to scratch the baby hairs at the base of his neck, a weird vibration kicked up in his chest. It reminded him a bit of a cat, but the sound stopped when Suo’s hand froze in its tracks.

    Sakura poked his head out from between his arms to blink up at Suo. He only had a second to capture the look of shock on Suo’s face before it was replaced with a gentle smile. Then, the hand started moving again, and Suo made a low sound from deep in his chest. Something about the noise soothed Sakura’s curiosity, so he laid back down and closed his eyes–the strange vibration kicking back up as soon as Sakura had settled.

    These feelings he held for Sakura were completely irrational, hopeless and pointless, the kind he’d probably look back on someday and laugh at. But perhaps, he rationalized to himself, if they made his whole world shine brighter, his heart light in his chest — it would be okay if he held onto these feelings for a little while longer.

He takes Sakura's hand in his own, a gentle touch of finger tips calloused over with burn scars (from a soldering iron, Sakura's background analysis supplies helpfully), of real skin over flesh and bone, a course beating steady through each and every blood vessel.

    "This will be the last time," Umemiya-san says, letting go of Sakura's hand to ruffle his hair, "I promise."

    Something twinges deep inside Sakura's chest. A prickling sensation. He cannot tell if it's unpleasant.

    "Don't humans break promises often, Umemiya-san?"

He smiles, widely, brightly, causing Sakura's eyes to hurt from the light he radiates, looking so innocent while making something so dirty. “Are you gonna be a good boy and call me onii-chan?”

    Umemiya is a freak.

    Umemiya wants Sakura to call him “onii-chan”, and Sakura thinks about obeying him more than he's ready to admit.

    Although the current top dog cat of Furin is small, he packs a kick that could send you to another realm instantly.

    That is, if you can get past his kings.
