A gas station can be a strange place. A portal between where you were and where you’re going; a passing blip on the map to one and a crucial, familiar hub to another. Offering brief solace to the drifters, the displaced, the transient. A bastion of warmth and civilization against the dark and lonesome stretches of road or a blessed reprieve against a backdrop of bustling clutter and noise. In many ways it stands as one last equalizer in the face of inequality, a reminder that no matter who you are or where you come from, you will always find yourself in need of a small collection of conveniences.
