Summary
The peacock did not initially have all those beautiful feathers; they were gifted to him by Juno, whose favourite he was. He became the envy of all the other birds when he strutted around decked out in all his finery.
However, when the peacock saw an eagle soaring overhead, he wanted to fly. He raised his wings but was weighed down by all his new feathers and sadly realised he would forever have to walk around on the ground like any common barnyard fowl.
Do not sacrifice your freedom for the sake of pomp and show.
