“Dearest,” his mother’s voice comes out a little louder. The hand on his arm squeezes in emphasis. Colin drags his eyes away from the beautiful vision of his fiancée— his fiancée! — and looks towards his mother.
“I got Humboldt to fetch you a cravat. I thought you might want to be fully dressed before we escort Miss Featherington home.” His mother presses a plain white scrap of cloth into Colin’s limp hand.
“Home?” Colin inquires, at a complete loss to his mother’s meaning. Penelope is home. He already escorted her up from the street and into Bridgerton House. Pen's cloak is already settled in the closet amongst their own.

A tiny introspective about what occurs after Colin announces his engagement to his family in the Bridgerton drawing room. In which he is mostly being a pouty loverboi about having to say goodbye to Pen.

Everyone always says to double-check who you’re texting; especially when it's something you'd never want a certain someone to see. But did Penelope Featherington listen? Of course not.
Fresh off a disastrous date, one she should have never agreed to go on; she was venting to both Eloise and Colin in separate texts… or so she thought. One chaotic post-date rant later, she fires off a message response meant for Eloise, and only Eloise....accidentally going straight to Colin.
And while she’s blissfully unaware of her texting mishap, Colin is now having a full-on internal meltdown, practically foaming at the mouth by what she just wrote. The "not so causal mention" of lip liner shades and nipples, is all he can think about. Suddenly, those “totally platonic, we are just friends, best friends” feelings he’s been pretending not to have? Yeah… not so platonic after all. He’s basically one raised eyebrow away from combusting.
