A second, then a blur. Ilya knocking over one of the kitchen island stools to engulf Shane. His shaking frame holding Shane so tight, Shane felt himself shaking back. He could only hold on back, just as tightly.
“Please.” Came the strangled voice by his left ear. “Please, tell me.”
And who was Shane to ever deny a wish of Ilya Rozanov.
“I’m signing to Ottawa. Tomorrow. If you would want to come with.”
And then Ilya was shoving him back, holding him close to his face. “Of course. I drive. Of course I come.”

Shane, fed up with Montreal, signs to Ottawa before their relationship is revealed. “Can’t I just... wait it out, like I normally do?”
Shah had sighed at that, her cool, medical professionalism being tested by the limits of Shane’s stubbornness. “You train, right? You do macrobiotic with high protein? This is the same thing – keeping your body in peak physical condition.”

“I think he does have someone,” Hayden admits quietly.
Jackie looks up at him then, her brows furrowed in surprise. “Why do you think that?”
Hayden shrugs. “He texts a certain girl quite often. Has been for years, although I’m not sure when it started.”
Jackie lets out a huff. “Why have you never told me this before? You’ve even let me set him up with some of my friends?”
“I kinda thought it wasn't anything serious for a while. But I feel like they’ve been texting for so long now, she must mean more to him than I initially thought.”
“What do you know about her? Tell me everything!” Jackie squeals excitedly.
“I don’t know a lot really. Her name is Lily, and I suspect she lives in or near Boston.”
Jackie raises her eyebrows questioningly. “Why do you think that?”
“Because there hasn’t been a game in Boston that he hasn’t been entranced by his phone in the locker room pre game, and he always disappears for a couple of hours when we’re there.”
“Oh my god, what if she’s a Raiders fan!” Jackie chuckles. “That would be hilarious!”
Or the one where Hayden discovers more about Lily's indentity than he wants, until he finds out he was wrong all along.

Summary

Summary
When Shane's two best friends, Rose and Hayden, convince him to go to a frat party, things go exactly as he feared they would - his friends disappear, and he's left alone with a panic attack and full of shame.
Then he meets Ilya - a frat brother who winds up being the person that helps him through the night. After a shameful admission of being a virgin, Ilya confesses his own insecurities about still speaking broken English.
The two become friends, deciding to help each other out - Shane would help Ilya with his English, and Ilya would help Shane find a date.
