"I want you to wear something for me, something of mine.”
Kravitz's eyebrows immediately raise in curiosity; he had clearly been expecting something else.
“That's. I—” Kravitz swallows, his adam’s apple bobbing just above the taut scar marring his throat. “Okay.”
"Just like that, huh?"

You kissed John like the animal you had become, and he responded with the fealty of a child, and then with the force of a god, and then with the passion of the abandoned.

Summary
[...] John awakened and said, Annabel, good morning.
To which Alecto replied, You stain upon this universe, you miserable wretch. Blood of my poisoned blood, I hand you my soul to feast upon and once again you make a mockery of me. Cursed be the day you first opened your eyes and set them upon my face.
To which she added, I have missed you for nine thousand years.

Summary
Admiral Sarpedon of the Ceaseless Fleet knows perfectly well that he’s far too old to be carrying on like this.
Were he ever in any danger of forgetting, his body would unhappily remind him at the first opportunity: God keeps such irregular hours these days, and Sarpedon gave up on late nights fifteen years ago, and if he yawns his stiff, sore way through one more morning meeting the Admiral of the Dead Sea is probably going to wait until after the Emperor inevitably slumps to sleep in his chair at the end of the table and then jump on the opportunity to say the quiet part out loud and pointedly ask Sarpedon what he got up to last night, because that’s just the sort of thing she would do. And it’s not as if Sarpedon doesn’t already know exactly what it is that all the various young people under his command are snickering about whenever they think his back is turned, but the prospect of having the subject so publicly raised is nonetheless unbearable.
And yet.
(Sarpedon has gay sex with God. It could’ve gone better.)

Summary
You have a not-especially-vested interest in not bringing up the Emperor’s dead Hands, those who betrayed him (at least half) and those he preferred to you (probably all, you anemic milk-slick, you eclipse-shadow of greatness). Your position is precarious. You are intimately goddamn aware of it.
But at least you have the same old advantages as always: in the deep and twisty vessel of you there is not one scruple nor drop of shame. And you are accustomed to being the overlooked sister.
--
John and Ianthe deal with the fact that his only remaining Lyctor is the one he never liked much. Maybe they can bond over the fact that they're both egotistical manipulators who lie like breathing? No?
Also, God sees ghosts. Ianthe doesn't help.
