After returning from patrol, Damian didn’t make the decision to shower down in the cave with any specific reason in mind. Apart from Drake, he was supposed to be alone, as everybody else had been otherwise engaged, and Drake always made it a point not to stay in the cave any longer than he absolutely had to. He would surely leave for his Nest imminently. Whether Damian showered in the cave or in his ensuite bathroom should’ve made no difference at all.
Contrary to his expectations, he heard the door to the showers open and then close again, and tensed as he realised what that meant.

“Going somewhere, demon?”
The thing was —
“Anywhere is better than here, Drake.” The ‘where you are not’ was unspoken — and the message was supposed to be clear. The ‘I should not have done this what the fuck was I thinking’ implied. The ‘I am going to get the hell out of here’ inferred.
The thing was, Damian had fucked up. Majorly.
Made worse by the fact this wasn't even the first time he’d made this specific mistake, but the third.

Summary
Damian wasn’t mean on purpose. Really, he wasn’t, he doesn’t intend to come off cold, uncaring, or dismissive. He just had a habit of doing so. He told himself it wasn't his fault, that it was just his instincts, and he always tried to make up for it. That would be why he was now meticuliously folding long slivers of paper and molding them into shape.
