What is all this?" he added with a gesture that indicated Ron's cramped workshop corner with its familiar chaos of antique Muggle hand tools and Wizarding broomsmithing tools."Not that you'd care," Ron said, still trying to stem his bleeding without flashing his stomach at Draco, "but what do you think? I'm a Broomwright, this is a shop, I know you're not that daft!"
Draco leaned his hip against the edge of the worktable and said nothing, but Ron found his smirk irritating enough. He seemed content to watch Ron fumble uselessly for his wand; it was rather uncharacteristic of the quick-retorting Malfoy he remembered.

No, no, it was because if Ron didn’t manage to speak then Draco would find out from the Daily Prophet that Ron had died in a back alley after being hit by a curse from a Death Eater. If Ron didn’t somehow tell Harry the truth now, Draco would never know how he truly felt. Because Draco had made Ron swear to not tell his loved ones they were dating—not yet, not until Draco was ready. And Ron had agreed. But now, as he lay dying on a sidewalk in some random Muggle town, Ron rather wished he would’ve broken that particular promise.
When Ron doesn't return home from a mission as expected, Draco has to swallow his pride and figure out what happened to him.

The snickering began after Draco passed. The wizards in gold trimmed robes leaning towards each other conspiratorially, smirks hidden behind campaign flutes. The words Malfoy and whore following him as stalked past, refusing to cower away, willing the heat spreading up his neck to stop before it reached his cheeks. Three months of this, since, what he now only referred to as the incident. He could take the gossip and snide comments behind his back, the laughter at his expense and wildly inaccurate stories, but he would not let them see the way it affected him.
