They didnt expect him to falter, to lower his sword and meet them face to face, to see an expression of recognition instead of fear or horror.
Percy Jackson had never really played the part of hero anyways.

Summary
Perseus was used to ghosts.
He spent his entire childhood toddling around too-small apartments, feeling nonexistent eyes watch from over his shoulder. He would dream of a warm, glowing smile; blue eyes far too similar to his own that creased in the corners staring down at him and would wake up with the imprint of that warmth lingering in the walls of his room. He grew up hearing stories of every tragedy his mom had ever suffered, played down for his child brain, of course. She would bundle them both in a blanket, wrap him in her arms, and they would sit out on the fire escape while she told him how she grew up. How she believed that everyone she had lost was still with her, was still watching over her, protecting her.
Perseus was used to ghosts.
He had never expected to become one.
