The Grabber comes down wearing his half-smile mask and tells Finney that, just for tonight, he can come upstairs. A movie. A “special occasion.” For the first time in weeks, Finney walks past the basement door and into the house above, warm air, flickering lights, and a kindness that feels wrong. He’s not sure what’s worse: being trapped in the dark or sitting beside the man who calls this a gift.
