Naim got pulled out of the city and dropped in the middle of bum fuck-nowhere, surrounded by Alphas who looked at him like he was something that had wandered into the wrong paddock. At least he had Ryan. Even if some of the decisions he'd made to get there were… questionable. He loved Ryan. But Rylan, Ryan's twin brother, scared him shitless. He had this blank stare that just give off nothing behind those eyes. But Naim isn't planning to stay here for long, he's got people in the city, plans of his own, a whole fucking life his mother insisted he wasn't capable of and he intend to shove every last bit of it right back in her face. Fuck.Her. There was no language on god green earth for how much he fucking hated this place. And he didn't even believe in God. He read Nietzsche for fuck sake. Well.. post-Nietzsche. Theism is a lost cause anyway

Ryan pulled off and sat up, wiping his mouth. Naim was sprawled out on the concrete looking dazed, eyes hazy and half-lidded.
Maybe I'm the insane one too. All these fucked-up thoughts he had about keeping Naim locked up in his apartment, padding every surface he might touch, making sure no one else could ever touch him or see him for that matter.
Ryan looked at the ceiling. "I think I get it though. The crazy thing. Like— not the armor and the suicidal bombs. But the other part."
Naim cracked one eye open. "What other part."
"The— wanting to just. Keep you. Somewhere no one else can get to you."
Naim blinked at him slowly, still lust-drunk. "I don't know, Ryan. I don't think you're crazy." He sighed, boneless and satisfied.
"But if I did want to lock you up. What would you do then?"
Naim chuckled, eyes drifting shut. "Ryan, you can barely parallel park. You're not keeping anybody anywhere." -

He took the branch out. It was thin, dry, like something already dead. The box played a creepy ringtone when he set it down. Startled him in the quiet car.
“I wish Ryan want me more than anyone in the fucking world.” He snapped it.
Silence.
He stared at the two halves in his palm. Then dropped them back in the box, shoved it in his bag, and started the engine.
The headlights came on.
Ryan was standing in the driveway.
Naim’s hand went still on the wheel. Ryan stood a few feet from the front of the car, white shirt, pale in the beams, not moving. His face was flat. Empty, dazed.
Naim lowered the window. “Ryan.”
Nothing.
“Ryan.” Louder. “Did you forget something?”
