Dick Hartson is out searching for burros with Tawny and Sable when he runs into an aggressive Alsatian who charges Sable. Shortly after, he meets Tom Rainse, a game warden who's been stationed here and told to find his own housing, and invites him to stay at the ranch.
Meanwhile, Buck is trying with little success to find work in Arizona to be able to rejoin Tom. They write letters back and forth, of which Tom only shares the tame parts with Dick, trying to come up with a solution. Summary

As two chiral timelines collide around them, Carlos and Cecil are forced to face their unspoken feelings about Kevin, and Carlos’ hypothesis is put to the test.
