Yeonsu picks up a strawberry, gives it a tentative nibble. “A crime against good taste, maybe.”
“You are insane.” Zhao rolls his eyes, stretching his arms over his head. “You want the blueberries or not?”
Yeonsu’s eyes fall down to his lap, contemplates his choices, and then, “... If you are offering, I shall accept.”
Zhao smiles. “Greedy boy.”

Summary
Kasuga Ichiban is, for lack of a better term, merfolk. He does not know why, he does not know how. All he knows is that one moment, he was a pirate like any other, sailing under Captain Arakawa in the Tojo fleet, and the next he was like this. The once Dread Captain Zhao Tianyou can empathise. Once, he had a ship, a crew, a life on the open seas. Now, mutinied against, abandoned on an uncharted island, he, too, is left to build up from rock bottom.
The island is home to other outcasts, people who have been spit back up by the ocean, left to survive on nothing but salt and sand. Will they be able to overcome tragedy, treachery and tempests? Will they be able to return to their loved ones, or find new ones? The sea is not a kind mistress, but she often has a way of guiding lost things home.
A fantasy pirate/merfolk AU very (very) loosely based off of the events of Like a Dragon/Yakuza 7, with a heavy sprinkling of ichizhao for good measure. Updates are scheduled for every Monday. Happy Mermay!
